possible dreams

I’ve been heads down in the execution of some exciting projects, lots of details and decision making, very practical & tactical. As a result, I have found my inspired dreamy creative self has taken a back seat to numbers and details and schedules. I’ve felt creatively dry, no new ideas bubbling up and even in my daily morning pages I’ve been feeling heavy, boring and bored. What to do to create a shift? I turned to the very tool I created to inspire and awaken creativity - The Hidden Artist Quest Card deck!
I asked the deck what question I need to ponder, closed my eyes and selected a card. With this small but decisive action, not only did I get inspiration for this writing but also an idea for a future workshop and a way forward with this year’s renewed commitment to my own writing. In a flash I saw my way to a whole year of blog posts by randomly selecting one card each month and exploring its question. No more stuck, no more excuses!

The image: an empty NY Subway car; an old one with orange hard plastic seats and a black speckled floor. Immediately the question arises – is that even possible?
What if empty space – unexpected empty space is possible?
what if it’s possible to get the degree
what if it’s possible to write a book
what if it’s possible to find a great job
what if it’s possible to work for myself
what if it’s possible to own a house
what if it’s possible to be a successful artist
what if it’s possible to travel the world
what if it’s possible to leave…
to stay
to find love
to love myself
Many people ask me how I do what I do - juggling work, coaching, art, travel, passion projects etc. I have answered this question in a variety of ways. But when exploring this question – what if it’s possible? - I found a new answer i hadn't considered before, to the question about how (and maybe why) I do so many things and get them done: because deep inside somewhere - I believe it’s possible.
I believe it all starts here, believing it's possible. Whatever pops up into your life or heart, from the smallest idea to the biggest dream, from an inkling to a burning desire – if you lean into the question, “what if it’s possible?” along with the place it is pointing you - to the idea that it is possible, the rest will take care of itself.
If you believe it’s possible then all you have to do is take a step and the next and then, if (and when) you get stuck, lean back into the question again and take another step…
The question, “what if it’s possible?,” is like a deep oxygenating breath. A question that breathes life into the dream. It’s like energizing a bunch of those little rubber super balls into the creative right hemisphere of your brain and letting them dance like playful effervescent bouncing joyous energy balls with their vibrant swirly colors – colorful energy balls of possibility.
Try it!
1. Take out your journal
2. Write down an idea or something you want to have or to do.
3. Then write the question – what if it’s possible?
4. Answer the question – just write until you run out of words.
5. Then write down the one next step you can take in the direction of this possibility.
6. Take the step and all the other steps that flow from it.
7. Repeat step 3 – 6 every time you run out of steam, run out of energy or get cynical.
Let me know when your idea goes from possible to real – enjoy the journey!
